A couple of years ago I decided I was giving up shampoo. I read and researched and decided to jump on the no poo bandwagon. I made it about 4 months with a successful full detox of my hair and scalp. For the first month of going shampoo free - I rotated with a baking soda wash, two days of just rinsing with ACV (apple Cider Vinegar), and a mild Castile Soap wash. My hair was definitely adjusting to the detox - and was pretty unmanageable. It got easier after that, and I fell off the no poo wagon during traveling for work and forgetting my beloved hair wash at home.
During this time that many of us are home - I figured it might be a good time to revisit a scalp or hair detox, since the first few weeks are what is usually the most challenging for being "presentable". I have been using my hair wash every day, and wanted to share this very simple recipe for a mild, natural, daily "hair wash".
You will need:
Using a small funnel (or pour carefully), pour all of the above ingredients into your bottle, then fill within an inch of the top with distilled water. Shake well. I use many pumps of my bottle daily to wash my hair - I go through this container every 10 days or so (I have shorter hair).
Conditioning Rinse - please don't forget this step! I use a small spray bottle and I fill it half way with organic apple cider vinegar, and the rest of the way with distilled water. Again I use a few drops of an essential oil to mask the vinegar a bit. Spritz your hair after using the wash, and you will feel it soften - then rinse completely.
Keep in mind that I have tweaked this recipe for my hair and the pH of my scalp. You may need more soap or less, more aloe or less, and you will most likely need to detox your scalp and hair before you see results that you are content with using this simple hair wash. Now is the best time to play around with it and see if you can kick the hair product dependency!
